Manufactured in Forestry Green using a 55/45 polyester-wool fabric blend, this Combination Cap for Master Chief Petty Officers was a basic uniform component of the Aviation Working Green Uniform. It ships ready to wear, with the black chin strap secured by two gold retaining buttons featuring the Navy Eagle emblem and the Master CPO insignia attached to the mounting band in the center of the front of the cap.
When the Navy announced it would be discontinuing the AWG uniform, several suggestions were made that would accommodate the rest of the Navy’s widespread uniform changes while allowing the CPOs and Officers who had come to love the uniform for its unique qualities. One proposal was to continue to authorized wear of the AWG but only as an optional uniform, so that personnel not as endeared to the uniform wouldn’t be required to pay for it. Another suggestion was to redesignate the uniform as an Aviation Service Dress uniform and allow it to be worn with service ribbons at more formal occasions. Unfortunately, the Navy never took either suggestion very seriously, and the AWG (and a slew of other uniforms) was replaced by the Navy Working Uniform.
