Manufactured in the U.S. using Mil-Spec-certified materials, our Aviation Green Combination Cap is Foresty Green and is crafted with a 55/45 polywool blend. Like all Combination Caps for Chief Petty Officers, this one features a black decorative chin strap, secured at the rear of the frame by to gold cap screws or retaining buttons emblazoned with the Navy Eagle emblem. As headgear for the Navy’s most senior enlisted Sailor, however, it also becomes with the one-of-a-kind Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) insignia: the golden fouled anchor and silver “USN” initials associated with Chief Petty officers for over a hundred years, surmounted by three stars on the anchor’s arms and stock with a single ray from each pointing downward.
This cap was worn with the Aviation Working Green Uniform, which the Navy discontinued in 2010. Interestingly, an MCPON could have a great deal of influence on bring the much-beloved uniform back to the wardrobe lineup of CPOs and Officer if so inclined—and it would not be unprecedented. In the Army, for example, Sergeant Major of the Army Daniel Dailey began to lobby almost ceaselessly for the return of the World War II-era “Pinks and Greens” uniform almost as soon as he assumed the billet; within two years, the basic uniform had been approved and is in the process of undergoing wear testing, an unlikely chain of events without Dailey’s constant campaigning for the change.
