Appointed by the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy serves as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the CNO and the Chief of Naval Personnel, bringing the issues affecting enlisted Sailors to the attention of the Navy’s highest-ranking officers and administrators. The MCPON is appointed to a four-year term.
The MCPON’s status as the most senior enlisted member of the Navy is reflected in the insignia, which features three silver stars atop the fouled anchor with superimposed initials of the U.S. Navy. Collar grade insignia are worn by the MCPON on white and khaki short-sleeve shirts, Navy coveralls, and the Service Dress White (SDW) jacket; they were also worn on the now-defunct Aviation Working Green uniform, which we still carry here at The Salute Uniforms because of high demand from veterans, collectors, and other organizations. Aviation Working Green uniforms come in two styles, one for Commissioned Officers and another for CPOs.
We carry two types of MCPON collar devices.
“Clutch Back” insignia are secured with a butterfly clutch and are worn on all uniforms except for the male SDW coat and the choker-style female SDW introduced in 2017. Our “
Pin Back” insignia is more suitable for the standing collar of these coats because it eliminates the bulky clutch, which can irritate the wearer’s neck, particularly when worn for extended periods of time or under hot or humid conditions.
