Since 1967, the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy MCPON has been the “voice of the Sailors” at the highest levels of the United States Navy Command structure. Crisscrossing the nation and the globe to meet with the Navy’s enlisted cadre and hear their concerns and opinions, the MCPON reports what he has learned to both the Chief of Naval Operations and Chief of Naval Personnel and provides input on policy formation and implementation.
The MCPON is chosen from the ranks of the Navy’s E-9 Command Master Chief Petty Officers; the office’s insignia featured on our tie tack is identical to other E-9 Chiefs except it has a third silver star above the CPO’s gold, fouled anchor. (A star replaces the specialty mark on the MCPON rating badge.)
Tie tacks and clasps are worn an inch beneath the mid-point of the black, four-in-hand tie authorized for wear by all Chiefs E-7 and higher with the Full Dress and Service Dress uniforms. Both
regular and
pre-tied neckties are permitted, but in no case may the bottom of the tie cover the belt buckle—even if the wearer is the most senior enlisted person in the United States Navy.
