Our pre-tied Navy necktie is a black four-in-hand that conforms to U.S. Navy uniform specifications. Uniform regulations call for the bottom of the tie to hang within an inch of the top of the belt buckle (and in no case can the tie cover the belt buckle).
Only male Officers and Chief Petty Officers are allowed to pre-tied neckties (although the Navy uses the term “necktie” to describe the necktabs worn by female personnel). They are authorized for wear on the Full Dress Blue and Service Dress Blue uniforms. (Until 2004, enlisted personnel were required to wear a black four-in-hand tie with the Winter Blue uniform, which was replaced with the year-round Service Uniform.)
Pre-tied neckties are an excellent option for those Officers and Chiefs who might lack the manual dexterity to properly execute the three knots (four-in-hand, Windsor, Half-Windsor) prescribed for use with the four-in-hand tie. They also eliminate the wear and tear on that area of the tie that is repeatedly tugged and stretched as the tie is knotted and untied.
