This black (subdued) open-face buckle is designed for wear with the 1-1/4 inch web belt worn with the trousers of the standard Camouflage Utility Uniform. It was dubbed the “Seabee Belt Buckle” not because of any type of Seabee insignia, but rather due to the fact that the Camouflage Utility Uniform was designated as organizational clothing that serves as the daily working uniform for all personnel serving in the Naval Construction Force, which comprises all the Seabee ratings.
But the Camouflage Utility Uniform was also authorized for a slew of other units and organizations, such as Naval Special Warfare Groups, Navy Cargo and Port Handling Groups, Naval Security Force (and Naval Reserve Security Force), Maritime Defense Zone Forces, Tactical Control Groups and Squadrons (only when deployed), and Military Sealift Command Offices and Area Commands (when deployed), to name a few.
The Navy replaced the standard Camouflage Utility Uniform with the Navy Working Uniform, which was issued in three types. Type I was discontinued in 2017, with Type III—a forest-green camouflage pattern—replacing it completely by 30 September 2019.
