Originally introduced during World War II, the Service Dress Khaki (SDK) uniform was worn throughout the Vietnam era, with the heavy cotton twill of the original uniform being replaced by light wool or a wool-blend in the 1960s. Its wear was discontinued in 1975 in a move to reduce the number of uniform in deployed Officers’ sea bags, but an updated version was approved on a trial basis in 2006 and approved as a Summer / Tropical uniform for Officers and Chief Petty Officers in 2008. It was discontinued a second time October 2012, with Navy officials citing cost considerations as the primary reason for the decision to reintroduce the uniform across all rates and ranks.
Our Officer Service Dress Khaki Uniform features a coat made with a premium Mil-Spec 75/25 polywool blend to provide maximum comfort and a khaki lining that matches the coat’s exterior fabric. The coat’s four pockets feature a scalloped design and button-through flaps with 24K gold U.S. Navy buttons. It ships with unattached shoulder loops that need to be sewn onto the shoulders to accommodate the hard shoulder boards specified for Officers.
