Like the United States Navy, the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service refers to its Officers in the O-7 to O-9 as Flag Officers and uses the same insignia of rank for the four grades. Rather than “Admiral,” however, the Corps’ 1- to 4-star Officers are titled after their positions in the office of the Surgeon General: Assistant Surgeon General, Assistant/Deputy Surgeon General, Surgeon General, and Assistant Secretary for Health.
Our USPSH Commissioned Corps Flag Officer Combination Caps feature two rows of brilliant gold embroidered oak leaves and acorns. We naturally offer the metal version of the Corps’ Officer cap device, but we also can adorn the Cap with an embroidered version of the cap device crafted out of lustrous gold bullion (please note embroidered and hand-sewn cap devices are no longer authorized for wear by Corps members while on Active or Reserve duty).
Female Flag Officers may choose to wear this standard version of the Combination Cover in lieu of the Alternate Cover introduced in 2015 to replace the female Combination Cap, commonly referred to as a “bucket cover.”
