Use the “Pattern” and “Style” selection boxes to the right to specify a subdued cloth E-9 First Sergeant insignia that matches your garment’s camouflage pattern and attachment methods. Guidance regarding the types of attachment methods on different types of uniform components is found under each uniform section in AFI 36-2903. Alternatively, you may refer to the selection chart below.
From 1 October 1918 until 1 April 2021, the Air Force will have two distinct types of utility uniforms, the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) and the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), with widely different styles and placement criteria for subdued cloth rank insignia. Because of this, customers searching for the sew-on E-9 First Sergeant chevron for the Airman Battle Uniform should use the "Sew-on Chevrons" link below.
Additionally, customers purchasing E-9 First Sergeant rank insignia for the OCP coat should also be aware that while they may choose either Sew-on or hook and loop (“Rank with Velcro” in our Style box) insignia, it must use the same attachment methods as found on the OCP coat’s name tape and USAF tape.
