Embroidered Senior Airman rank insignia is worn on the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) uniform and Patrol Cap, the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) and Patrol Cap, Extended Cold Weather Clothing System (ECWCS) components such as the Sage Green or Coyote Brown Fleece, the All-Purpose Environmental Clothing System (APECS) and Improved Rain Suit (IRS), and the Woodland Gore-Tex jacket.
Officially introduced on 1 October 2018, the OCP utility uniform replaces the ABU, which is being phased out and has a wear-out date of 31 March 2021. The ABU uses a distinct type of insignia design for Enlisted E-2 to E-9 personnel that is worn on the shoulders; customers searching for sew-on ABU Senior Airman rank insignia should use the "Sew-On Chevrons" link below.
Both OCP and ABU embroidered rank insignia are manufactured with three different attachment styles to accommodate the wide variety of uniforms on which they are worn. Use the Style selection box to the right to select either Sew-on, hook and loop (Rank with Velcro), or slip-on (Gortex loop). Customers purchasing OCP rank insignia for the OCP coat (shirt) need to remember that the attachment style must be the same as that used for the nameplate and USAF tape also worn on the front of the coat.
