The Air Training Command crest was worn on the blue beret issued to members of what was then designated as United States Air Force Security Police in accordance with uniform regulations called for Security Police to wear the crest of the Major Command (MAJCOM) to which they were assigned. This was discontinued after the Security Police were redesignated as Security Forces in 1997 and authorized their own distinctive shield and crest (although Security Forces Officers wear a colored flash with a rank insignia instead of the crest).
Today, the MAJCOM crests are worn on the ascots authorized for the Security Forces dress uniform or the Airman's Battle Uniform—but the Air Training Command crest is not one of them. That is because the command, which was established in 1946 as a redesignation of Army Air Forces Training Command, was officially discontinued in 1993 when it merged with Air University as part of the creation of Air Education Training and Command, with Air University retaining its status as an independent but subordinate organization of the new Command.
