Command Chief Master Sergeant shoulder marks may be worn on the epaulets of the 50/50 acrylic wool pullover sweater and the white or blue cardigan sweaters.
Command Chief Master Sergeants are E-9 enlisted personnel selected to serve as a senior advisor (prior to 1998 the position was titled Senior Enlisted Advisor) to commanders of high-level organizations such as Wings, Numbered Air Forces, Field Operating Agencies (specialized organizations not associated with specific commands), and Major Commands. Also, Chief Master Sergeants selected to serve as a senior enlisted advisor in a Joint Command are designated as Command Chief Master Sergeants.
The similarities between the duties of First Sergeants and Command Chief Master Sergeants is reflected in the design of the insignia of grade, with Command Chief Master Sergeants’ insignias featuring a star in lieu of the lozenge (diamond) employed on the First Sergeant insignia.
