Commonly called the USAF Commander’s Badge, the Air Force Command Insignia Pin was introduced in 2002. Air Force Instruction 36-2903, Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel, specifies that the Command Insignia pin is to be worn by all eligible commissioned officers, i.e., those at the rank of colonel or below who hold or have held a major command billet with the Air Force, on all blue uniforms. Officers who command or commanded an Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment qualify for wear of the pin.
For officers currently in a qualifying command position, the pin is worn centered on the right side, adjacent to top of medals, between the top button of the coat and the top shoulder seam and at the mid-point of the distance between the lapel and arm seam. Different rules of wear apply for graduated officers and in cases where more than one duty badge is worn. Please refer to AFI 36-2903 for exact instructions on the wear of this insignia.
