Airmen serving in the
CE7X1 specialty, Fire Protection, are
issued a badge featuring a shield and a firefighter’s “scramble” insignia consisting of a trumpet, a helmet, and an axe. Currently, this badge is worn by Fire Protection specialists, also called Firefighters, through the Craftsman (7 skill) level—but only when they are performing Fire Protection duties. Because the CE7X1 specialty is a Civil Engineering profession, all enlisted Airmen serving in it wear the Civil Engineering badge.
The other three remaining Fire Protection Badges are currently awarded to Fire Protection specialists working within a Fire Emergency Services (FES) Flight who have reached the the rank of Master Sergeant and above; these insignia feature varying numbers of trumpets on the shield (the “scramble” design is not used for these badges). A gold shield with three trumpets is worn by Assistant Chiefs in specialized fields (Training, Operations, Fire Prevention, Health and Safety) and Deputy Fire Chiefs. Four trumpets are reserved for Fire Chiefs and Deputy Fire Chiefs (these are Senior Master Sergeants), and badges with five trumpets are worn by Chief Master Sergeants serving as Fire Chiefs or in Manager positions (Chief Enlisted Manager, Career Field Manager, or MAJCOM Functional Manager).
FES Duty Badges are also issued to civilians. None of these feature the scramble found on the Fire Protection Specialist insignia, using instead one or two trumpets on gold or silver shields; the badges holding the shields may also be gold or silver. Use the drop-down menu to choose the number of trumpets, the shield color, and the badge color appropriate for your duty position. Note: You must choose either a crossed or parallel orientation when selecting two trumpets.
The shields are to be worn only when performing Flight Emergency Services duties.
