This hat band is designed for the Women’s Service Cap, also referred to as a Bucket Cap, worn by all Enlisted female personnel and female Company-Grade Officers, which includes the ranks of 2nd and 1st Lieutenant and Captain. Enlisted and Officer cap devices are attached to the nebuly (bulbous protrusion) of the hat band. Hat bands worn on the Service Caps of female Field-Grade and General Officers are manufactured with the appropriate number of “clouds and darts” designs on either side of the nebuly (two for Field-Grade, three for General Officers).
Adopted from the Women’s Service Cap developed by the Army, the Air Force Women’s Service Cap has remained nearly unchanged ever since it was introduced in the early 1950s. The cap is still authorized for wear, but women now have the option to wear Men’s Service Cap if they wish.
