Shoulder boards are worn to display rank insignia on the Air Force Men’s and Women’s Mess Dress and Formal Dress uniforms. The Shoulder boards are secured by opening the board and sliding the lower half over the coat's shoulder loops before securing them; the boards should be positioned so that the rank on them is as close to the shoulder seam as possible.
If you're purchasing a new Mess Dress coat to go with these Air Force 1st Lieutenant shoulder boards, you can take advantage of our shoulder-loop sewing service so the jacket arrives ready for the boards to be slide into place (the loops come free with the coat). You also might wish to add our
Officers’ sleeve braids to your shopping cart because they are sold separately from the coat. For your convenience, we offer sleeve hemming and braid-sewing services so your coat will be ready to wear when it arrives.
