The three stars on the shoulder marks worn by Lieutenant Generals (O-9) in the Air Force are configured point-to-center with a single ray pointing toward the neck. Unlike shoulder marks worn by Air Force Officers in grades O-6 (Colonel) and below, General Officers’ shoulder marks have a silver braid on each end, with the thicker braid on the end placed at the shoulder seam.
Shoulder marks are worn on the epaulets of the long- and short-sleeve shirts and blouses that are part of the Service Dress, Semi-Formal Dress, Blue Service, and Maternity Uniforms. The only formal uniform for which they are authorized is the Maternity Mess Dress, which requires the wearer to tuck the Maternity Jumper under the epaulets before attaching the shoulder marks.
Besides shirts/blouses, shoulder marks are also worn by Officers on the blue acrylic wool pullover sweater, blue or white cardigan sweaters, and the topcoat.
Use the selection boxes to the right to select the appropriate size and insignia finish for your shoulder marks. While bullion shoulder marks are more expensive than their embroidered counterparts, we think you’ll agree that their crisp lines and fine detail make them well worth the difference in cost.
