The two stars on the shoulder marks worn by Major Generals (O-8) in the Air Force are configured point to center—the same orientation used for pin-on insignia worn on the epaulets of the coats of the Men’s or Women’s Service Dress. Like all General Officer (O-7 to O-9) shoulder marks, they feature a silver braid on each end in addition to the insignia of grade.
Use the drop-down selectors to the right to select Large/Small shoulder marks and choose insignia embroidered from silver fabric or bullion. Both types of finishes meet or surpass Mil-Spec standards and Air Force regulations, but the difference the sharp, crisp outlines that can only be achieved by crafting them with bullion is more than worth the extra cost.
Shoulder marks are attached to long- and short-sleeve shirts/blouses by unbuttoning the shoulder epaulets found on those garments and sliding it through the tubelike shoulder mark. Uniforms for which shoulder marks are prescribed include the Men’s and Women’s Service Dress, Semi-Formal, Blue Service, and Maternity uniforms; they are also authorized for wear with the white long-sleeved blouse worn with the Maternity Jumper, as well as with the pullover and cardigan sweaters and the topcoat.
