For offices and positions higher than District Captain/Chief of Staff (elected) and Deputy Assistant National Commodore, Director, et. al, the Coast Guar Auxiliary’s shoulder board insignia design follows that of the Navy and Coast Guard, starting with a single star on a wide, silver lace stripe and adding a star to represent the next highest organizational level.
The shoulder board insignia for the Auxiliary’s sixteen District Commodores and eight Assistant National Commodores features a single star and, instead of the Auxiliary emblem, a silver embroidered Coast Guard shield on an anchor.
Shoulder boards come in two styles, Enhanced and Hard, with the Hard version offered in Large and Small sizes. Hard shoulder boards are worn on the Service Dress White coat and Dinner Dress White jacket, attached to the shoulders by passing the hasp of the board through shoulder loops.
District and Assistant National Commodores wear Enhanced shoulder boards on the Cardigan and Wooly-Pully sweaters and the epaulette-style shirts worn with the Tropical Blue and Service Dress Blue uniforms.
