Auxiliarists who have been appointed District Staff Officer (DSO), District Commodore Administrative Assistant (D-AA), or Branch Chief (BC) share the same sleeve-stripe insignia, which is reproduced on Hard and Enhanced shoulder boards for wear on uniforms that do not incorporate sleeve insignia. In addition to the quarter-inch and two half-inch laces, the insignia features the Auxiliary shield with the red “A” indicating the wearer was appointed to the officer or position.
Hard shoulder boards are worn on the Dinner Dress White Jacket and Service Dress White uniforms by unsnapping the board’s button and opening the hinged hasp to slide it through the shoulder loops on the shoulders. The Hard boards are manufactured in two lengths, Large (5.5”) and Small (5”).
Enhanced shoulder boards eschew the button closure of the Hard boards, and come with a swatch of flexible, open-ended material through which an epaulette is inserted. DSOs, D-AAs, and BCs wear the Enhanced shoulder boards on shirts (with the Service Dress Blue and Tropical Blue uniforms) and sweaters (Cardigan and Wooly-Pully).
