Shoulder boards featuring four half-inch laces and the red “A” Coast Guard Auxiliary emblem are worn by Auxiliarists appointed to serve as Deputy Assistant National Commodore (ANACOd), Director, Senior Fellow (DIR-XSF), or National Administrative Assistant (N-A).
The position of Senior Fellow is a relatively one in the Auxiliary, and was created to augment Auxiliary efforts in the rapidly changing field of Information Technology; in fact, the appointment can only be made in Information Technology directorates, and only two Senior Fellows may be appointed at any given time.
Hard shoulder boards are worn only on white uniforms, specifically the Dinner Dress White Jacket and Service Dress White, and come in Large and Small sizes (Small if a half-inch shorter in length—use the Size selection box to choose the size appropriate for your dimensions.
Enhanced shoulder boards were created for wear on epaulette-style shirts that can be worn as dress uniforms; examples include the shirts worn with the Service Dress Blue and Tropical Blue uniforms. (They are not worn on the epaulettes of the shirt worn with the Undress Blue—Winter uniform.) The Wooly-Pully and Cardigan sweaters feature epaulettes on which shoulder boards are authorized for wear.
