Auxiliarists who have been elected to serve as Coast Guard Auxiliary District Captains (DCAPT) and District Chiefs of Staff (DCOS) share the same sleeve and shoulder board lace insignia, four half-inch stripes with an Auxiliary shield containing a blue “A” placed 1/4-inch above the topmost lace.
With the Dinner Dress White Jacket or Service Dress White uniforms, DCAPTs and DCOS wear Hard shoulder boards embroidered with this insignia (the lace stripes and shield are worn on the sleeves of the blue equivalents of these uniforms). Hard boards employ a hinged hasp that’s inserted through the shoulder loops of the white jacket and coat and are offered in Large (5-1/2 inches long) and Small (5 inches) sizes.
Enhanced shoulder boards are designed for wear with shirts featuring epaulettes, but they are only worn on epaulette-style shirts when those shirts are worn as a Dress uniforms—Enhanced boards are not worn with the Undress Blue—Winter uniform, for example. They’re also authorized for wear on the Cardigan and Wooly-Pully sweaters.
