COAST GUARD AUXILIARY FLOTILLA STAFF OFFICER HARD/ENHANCED SHOULDER BOARDS

Coast Guard Auxiliarists who have been appointed Flotilla Staff Officer display their “rank”—actually their place on the Auxiliary’s organizational chart—on two types of shoulder boards, Hard or Enhanced, when wearing either white Dress/Service uniform jackets and coats with shoulder loops or shirts or sweaters manufactured with epaulettes to accommodate the open-ended tubular design of Enhanced boards.

Besides a single stripe, the FSO should board has an Auxiliary shield with the letter “A” indicating an appointed rather than elected position. (This is almost unnecessary for the Flotilla Staff Officer position since it is the only one with a single stripe.)

Use the selection boxes to the right to choose the correct board for your uniform needs. Hard Shoulder Boards are worn exclusively on the Dinner Dress White Jacket and Service Dress White coat and come in Large and Small versions; Auxiliarists of smaller stature or with less girth in the shoulders should choose Small. Enhanced boards are worn on shirts or sweaters manufactured with epaulettes that can be inserted through the tubelike opening on the bottom of the Enhanced board; these include the shirts worn with the men’s and women’s Service Dress Blue and Tropical Blue uniforms and the Wooly-Pully and Cardigan Sweaters.
