Shoulder boards for Coast Guard Auxiliary uniforms come in two styles, Hard and Enhanced, with the Hard style offered in Large and Small sizes (Enhanced comes in a single size). Coast Guard members who have not been elected or appointed to a position are authorized to wear only the Auxiliary shield with a silver “A” on both styles of boards.
Hard shoulder boards are authorized for wear on the men’s and women’s versions of the Dinner Dress White Jacket and Service Dress White uniforms and are attached by sliding the hinged bottom of the board through the two loops of the jacket/coat, then securing the board in place with the snap-closure button near the neck.
Enhanced boards, on the other hand, have an open-ended, flexible tube attached to the bottom of the board through which the epaulettes of shirts and sweaters can be inserted and then rebuttoned when the board is in place.
