On Hard and Enhanced Shoulder Boards, the position of Division Staff Officer is displayed with a 1/2-inch lace, a 1/4-inch lace, and an Auxiliary shield with a red “A” indicating an appointed office. The same components and roughly the same configuration are used as sleeve insignia on blue Dress and Service jackets/coats.
Hard Shoulder Boards, on the other hand, are worn on the men’s and women’s Dinner Dress White jacket and Service Dress White coat, with the hinged bottom of the board inserted through the shoulder loops of those garments. Hard boards are available in two sizes, Large (5-1/2 inches long) and Small (5 inches long).
Enhanced Shoulder Boards are designed for wear with non-outerwear garments like shirts and sweaters that are manufactured with epaulettes. Division Staff Officers wear Enhanced boards on the shirts of the men’s and women’s Service Dress Blue and Tropical Blue uniforms, as well as on the Cardigan and Woolly-Pully sweaters. Simply unbutton the epaulette and insert it through the flexible tubelike bottom of the Enhanced board, then rebutton the epaulette when the board is properly positioned.
