For its blue and white Dress and Service uniforms, the Coast Guard Auxiliary employs an insignia system similar to that used by the Navy and the Coast Guard for its Officers, with “rank” displayed through the use of sleeve stripes on blue uniforms and stripes on shoulder boards for white uniforms. Enhanced shoulder boards are a buttonless variant of standard hard boards that are slid into place over epaulettes attached to shirts and sweaters.
Flotilla Vice Commanders wear hard shoulder boards on the Dinner Dress White Jacket and Service Dress White coat, sliding the hinged bottom half of the board through the shoulder loops on those garments and securing the board with a snap-closure button near the neck. Hard shoulder boards are offered in two sizes, Large and Small, that you can select in the drop-down box to the right.
Enhanced shoulder boards are worn by Flotilla Vice Commanders on the shirt of the men’s and women’s Service Dress Blue and Tropical Blue uniforms. They’re attached by unbuttoning the epaulette and sliding it through the open-ended bottom of the shoulder board, then buttoning the epaulette back in place. Enhanced shoulder boards are also authorized for wear with the Wooly-Pully and Cardigan sweaters.
