The United States Marine Corps Male Enlisted Service Uniform comes in three alphabetically designated variations, “A” through “C,” with the “B” version being the “A” version without the Service Coat. The “C” version also lacks the Service Coat and replaces the long-sleeved khaki shirt with an open-collar short-sleeved khaki shirt. Unlike the different classifications of the Blue Dress or Blue-White Dress Uniforms, all three versions of the Service Uniform are authorized for wear while on liberty.
Prescribable for parades, social events, ceremonies, and as the Uniform of the Day, the Service uniform is normally worn when reporting for duty unless otherwise prescribed by the Commander. The Service “A” Uniform is specifically prescribed for several types of military occasions, including when serving as a member of a courts-martial or a court of inquiry; during official visits/calls of or to U.S. Civil officials, U.S Armed Forces' offices, and officials or officers of foreign governments; and at all times when visiting the White House (or temporary White Houses) except as a tourist or when individually invited and another uniform is indicated on the invitation.
