The USMC Female Enlisted Blue Dress Uniform comes in four variations alphabetically designated as “A” through “D,” with the “C” and “D” versions replacing the Dress Coat with a long- and short-sleeved khaki overblouses, respectively. Introduced in 2018, its Mandarin coat is very similar to the one worn by male personnel, with the primary differences being the absence of breast and lower pockets and the use of Velcro in place of a black interior button to secure the coat below the six front gold closure buttons.
USMC Uniform regulations call for the wear of the Blue Dress “A” and “B” Uniform at parades, ceremonies, and formal and semi-formal social events by NCOs and lower throughout the year and for Staff Noncommissioned Officers (SNCOs) as fitting for the season or when uniformity in appearance with NCOs and below is required. (The “B” version is identical to the “A” except ribbons are worn in lieu of medals and it is authorized for wear on liberty and the “A” is not.) A more detailed explanation of when the Uniform is prescribed for wear is found in paragraph 2002 of the 2018 Marine Corps Uniform Regulation (MCO 1020.34H)
Please note that the Blue-White Dress “A” and “B” Uniforms, normally reserved for wear by worn by SNCOs and Officers on occasions at which Enlisted personnel wear the Blue Dress “A/B” Uniforms, are identical to the Blue Dress counterparts except that a white skirt or slacks are worn. Changes in the Marine Corps Uniform Regulations authorize NCOs (E-4 and E-5) and Junior Enlisted personnel (E-3 and below) to wear of white slacks if necessary for uniformity of appearance; refer to paragraph 3028 of the 2018 Marine Corps Regulations for more info.
