The Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services Identification Badge (OSIB) is worn by Officers who have been assigned on a permanent basis to a position within any of the organizational components of the Office of the Secretary, Health and Human Services.
Authorization to wear the badge is automatic with assignments to such positions that have a start date of 22 June 1999. Officers assigned to such positions prior to this date are not retroactively authorized to wear the badge.
Officers may wear the badge temporarily upon their first assignments to a position with the Office of the Secretary. After completing a full year of continuous service in a qualifying position, Officers may permanently wear the badge, keeping in mind that any time spend on a detail or temporary duty outside the Officer of the Secretary does not count toward the year of service. Further, Officers who are detailed or assigned temporary duty away from the Office may not wear the badge during the detail or while on temporary duty.
Those Officers who qualify for the temporary wear of the badge but who do not meet the requirements for its permanent wear must return the badge to the Division of Commissioned Corps Personnel and readiness when their tour of duty in the Officer of the Secretary is completed.
