USPHS EXPEDITIONARY ATTACHMENT FOR MEDALS AND RIBBONS
In April 2015, the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service announced the establishment of two new awards, the Ebola Campaign Medal and the Expeditionary Attachment.
Designed for wear on previously issued campaign medals or service awards, the Expeditionary Attachment was created to recognize service by a Commissioned Corps member in a specific location or a theater of operation that was in direct support of a campaign initiative or a mission that was determined to merit special recognition.
The ultimate arbiter of which assignments will qualify for the Expeditionary Attachment is the Surgeon General of the United States, who manages the Commissioned Corps’ Emergency Response Teams. Recent examples of Emergency Response Teams being dispatched include during the flooding in Louisiana in 2016 and during the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
