The Dinner Dress Blue Jacket (DDBJ) for Female Officers in the USPHS Commissioned Corps is a basic component of the uniform of the same name that is authorized for Winter wear at official functions at which civilian attire would be black tie. Possession of the DDBJ is mandatory for Officers in the grade of O-4 (Surgeon) and higher and is optional for all other Officers (there are no Enlisted personnel in the Corps, although the service is authorized to appoint Warrant and Chief Warrant Officers).
Featuring a narrow shawl collar and worn with no front closure, the bolero-style Female DDBJ has three 22.5-ligne gilt buttons embossed with the United States Public Health Service emblem on each front panel. Sewn-on
sleeve stripes and sleeve devices are used to display insignia of grade, and miniature versions of all authorized medals are worn on the left chest.
Note: Our military dress coats and jackets are manufactured and ship with unfinished sleeves longer than most customers would ever need. This is to accommodate various arm lengths and to minimize total alteration costs, since placement of sleeve devices and sleeve stripes and devices is predicated on the distance from the sleeve end. We do offer a variety of sleeve alteration services that will be suggested to you when add the coat to your shopping cart should you prefer to have the coat arrive ready to wear.
