The Service Dress White (SDW) Coat for female Officers in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is a required component of the uniform of the same name, as well as the Full Dress White and Dinner Dress White (not to be confused with Dinner Dress White Jacket) Uniforms.
This version of the Women’s SDW Coat was previously part of the United States Navy uniform lineup, which is the source from which the USPHS Commissioned Corps draws its uniforms and wear guidance. The Navy discontinued its wear after 31 January 2020, however, replacing it with a choker-style coat that closely resembles the Men’s coat, and it’s likely the USPHS will do the same whenever it releases an update to its uniform regulations. For now, though, this remains the officially authorized Female SDW coat.
A single-breasted coat with a formfitting design, this version of the Female SDW Coat features a rounded collar, overlying half-peaked lapels, and four 35-ligne USPHS gilt buttons. The purchase price of the coat includes the shoulder loops necessary to attach the required hard shoulder boards, but they ship unattached (see sewing services below).
Note: Our military dress coats and jackets are manufactured with unhemmed sleeves longer than most customers would ever need. This is to accommodate the disparity in our customers’ arm lengths and to ensure there is an abundance of material with which to work during the alteration process.
We do offer a variety of sewing services that will be suggested to you when add the coat to your shopping cart should you prefer to have the coat arrive ready to wear, including options to have the sleeves hemmed and shoulder loops sewn on tat are used to attach hard shoulder boards.
