Unlike its white, Summertime counterpart, the Female Service Khaki Uniform worn by Female Officers in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps can be prescribed for wear throughout the whole year and is worn while performing normal office duties. It also differs from the Service White Uniform in the manner in which insignia of rank is displayed—collar grade insignia is worn on the Female Service Khaki short-sleeve shirt and, if the Khaki Garrison Cap is prescribed for wear, on the right side of the cap (Officer device is worn on the left side). If the Command Ball Cap is prescribed, embroidered grade insignia is placed below “U.S. Public Health Service” and above the top of the hatband.
Per USPHS and Navy regulations, the short-sleeved shirt and khaki slacks are manufactured with 100% polyester Certified Navy Twill; the shirt features two breast pockets and is worn with the collar open to form a V-neck and the bottom tucked into the slacks. The Female Khaki Service Uniform is designed for comfort and functionality, with slacks featuring a pair of side pockets and fore and aft creases and an optional A-line style skirt with two front welt pockets.
