Every year, on the first Monday of April at 0001 hours, the Female Summer White Service Uniform automatically becomes the prescribed spring and summer Uniform of the Day for women in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and is prescribed for wear when performing usual office-type duties. Its required components include a white summer shirt (i.e., short-sleeved), white slacks secured with a white belt featuring a gold buckle and a gold clip, white shoes and socks, hard shoulder board, a USPHS nametag, and a white Combination Cap with appropriate visor ornamentation and Officer device.
Ribbons rather than medals are prescribed for wear with the U.S. Public Health Service Female Service Dress White Uniform, with Officers given the option of wearing either their full complement of military decorations or just the top three awards based on precedence. Prescribable items include a Command Ball Cap (this decision is made by the Local Uniform Authority, or LUA), white undershirt, or the all-weather Blue Coat. The list of optional items, on the other hand, is quite extensive; you can find them listed in the Appendix of Command Corps Instruction 421.02, Uniforms for Female Officers.
