The United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, also known as the USPHS Commissioned Corps— takes all its uniforms and uniform regulations almost word-for-word from the United States Navy Uniform Manual. Here, we see the Corps’ Male Service Dress Blue Uniform (SDB), one of two uniforms for which all USPHS CC Officers (except Junior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Expert Program participants) must own and maintain all required components (the Operational Dress Uniform is the other).
The Male SBD Uniform is worn year-round at official functions or in situations where more formal uniforms (Full, Dinner, and or Formal) are not prescribed and the civilian equivalent clothing for males is coat-and-tie. By compiling all the required and optional components of the uniform, our SDB Uniform Builder makes it easy to assemble or an SDB from scratch or to replace any components your current SDB needs to be 100% squared away. And clicking on the image of any SDB component below will open a new browser tab that’s chock-full of more detailed product information.
As suggested by its very name, the USPHS CC comprises only commissioned Officers, although by law—Title 42 U.S. Code Section 204(a)5, to be precise—Warrant Officers may be appointed to the USPHS to provide “support to the health and delivery systems maintained by the Service.” Once appointed, however, they are immediately considered to be a commissioned Officers and thus a member of the Commissioned Corps of the Service.
