Unlike the Summer White Service Uniform, the USPHS Male Service Khaki Uniform is pre-scribable for wear year-round whenever normal office work is being performed. Also, the Service Khaki Uniform replaces the hard shoulder boards found on the Summer White Uniform with collar grade insignia; if a khaki garrison cap is prescribed instead of the khaki Combination Cap, a miniature rank device is worn on the wearer’s right on the cap and a miniature USPHS device is worn on the wearer’s left.
Basic components of the Male Officer Service Khaki Uniform include the khaki short-sleeved shirt worn with an open collar, khaki service trousers, khaki belt with gold clip and buckle, black dress shoes, and a khaki combination cap. Insignia of grade and/or staff corps insignia are worn on the collar point; if a garrison cap is prescribed in lieu of the combination cap, insignia of grade is worn on the wearer’s right of the cap and an Officer’s cap device is worn on the left.
Brown dress shoes are an optional item, and if worn the standard black socks are replaced with khaki socks. Also optional are the number of ribbons that may be worn: unlike some dress Uniforms where all authorized medals as annotated in a USPHS Officer’s Official Personnel File must be worn, wear of the Service Khaki Uniform gives the Officer the option to wear all ribbons or just the three highest awards.
Note that some Service Khaki Uniform components below carry U.S. Navy titles. This is because the Officers of the Commissioned Corps of the USPHS wear Navy uniforms that are modified with USPHS insignia, medals/ribbons, and other devices and accouterments.
