Designed for comfort while performing normal officer or administrative work during the Summer months, the Male Summer White Service Uniform is one of four General Purpose Service Uniforms in the Commissioned Corps of the United States Public Health Service. Its wintertime counterpart is the Khaki Service Uniform, while the two Dress uniforms are the Service Dress Blue/White.
Manufactured with the same type of Navy-authorized Certified Navy Twill that is used for the trousers, the white-short sleeved shirt is worn with an open collar and two breast pockets with button flaps. The men’s version of the uniform features a shirt with shoulder loops for attaching hard shoulder boards; the women’s version comes with epaulettes mounted on the shoulders for the same purpose. While the white Combination Cap is a required component of the Summer White Uniforms, the local uniform authority can prescribe Command Ball Caps in their stead.
