The 321st Sustainment Brigade is an Army Reserve unit headquartered in Jackson, Mississippi and assigned to the 143rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary). It consists of the 365th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, which comprises four companies tasked with various Sustainment functions (Petroleum, Water, Transportation, Supply) based in Mississippi and Louisiana.
Originally constituted as the 321st Logical Command and activated at Fort Wayne, Indiana on 27 February 1951, the unit was given its current designation in 2006; it had been previously designated the 321st Materiel Management Center (Theater Support). Approval for the
the 321st Sustainment Brigade Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, or unit patch, was given on 7 March 2006.
The buff and scarlet colors used in the insignia are associated with Support organizations in the Army; scarlet is also the color of the Meritorious Unit Commendation, which the unit received in the Southwest Asia conflict (First Gulf War), as well as courage and zeal. The scarlet bar is graphic representation of the name of Baton Rouge, French for “red stick;” it was the Brigade’s location at the time the design was approved.
A compass rose is a symbol of guidance and leadership and also signifies the capability of worldwide deployment. The gold disc on the star represents the blazing sun of Southwest Asia; the palm branch, symbolizing victory, is also a reference to that region. On the colored version of the patch, the dark blue contrasts with the shiny compass rose to simulate the light and darkness of the day-night cycle, a reference to constant vigilance. Blue is also the color used to symbolized loyalty and constant dedication.
