WEST VIRGINIA ACHIEVEMENT RIBBON

The West Virginia Achievement Ribbon (WVAR) is fifth in overall precedence of West Virginia Service Medals and third in precedence of those Service Medals and Ribbons established by The Adjutant General of the West Virginia National Guard (WVNG) rather than by the State legislature.

It was established on 15 October 1990 through the promulgation of West Virginia Permanent Order Number 4, a Joint order from the WV Army National Guard and WV Air National Guard.

Issued only as a ribbon, the WVAR may be awarded to members of the WVNG who distinguish themselves by service and/or acts of sufficient importance that are worthy of significant recognition, but of a lesser degree than necessary for the award of the West Virginia Commendation Medal.
