WYOMING ARMY NATIONAL GUARD ELEMENT, JOINT FORCE HQ UNIT CREST (DUI)

Also known as a unit crest or DUI, a Distinctive Unit Insignia is worn by all Soldiers (except General Officers) in units that have been authorized to be issued the device. It is worn centered on the shoulder loops of the Army Green Service Uniform (AGSU) and the blue Army Service Uniform (ASU, Enlisted only) with the base of the insignia toward the outside shoulder seam. Current regulations do not permit the DUI to be worn on the Dress variations of either uniform, however.

Enlisted personnel wear the insignia centered on a shoulder loop by placing it an equal distance from the outside shoulder seam to the outside edge of the shoulder-loop button. Officers (except Generals) wearing grade insignia on the shoulder loops center the DUI by placing it an equal distance between the inside edge of the grade insignia and the outside edge of the button.

More guidance on wear of the DUI is found in DA Pamphlet 670-1, Section 21-22, "Distinctive unit insignia" and 21–3(d) and (e), "Beret" and "Garrison Cap," respectively.

The Distinctive Unit Insignia (unit crest, DUI) for the Wyoming Army National Guard Element, Joint Force Headquarters (HQ) has undergone several redesignations since it was first approved for the State Staff and State Detachment, Wyoming National Guard on 7 May 1937. On August 11 of that same year it was revised to change the background of the disc from gold to the blue that’s currently used. It was redesignated for the HQ and HQ Detachment and non-color bearing units of the Wyoming Army National Guard on 22 February 1971, then was redesignated in October 1982 for HQ, State Area Command, Wyoming Army National Guard (ARNG). It did not receive its currently designation until 1 October 2003, the same date that the description was updated and additional symbolism added.

Taken from the Great Seal of the State of Wyoming, the design of the Wyoming ARNG Element, Joint Force HQ includes the two most important years in state history: 1869 and 1890, the years in which territorial government was organized and the state was admitted into the Union, respectively. The lady in the center holding the “Equal Rights” banner symbolizes the state government’s status as the first to grant women the same civil and political rights as men, while the men on her left and right represent the livestock/farming (left) and mining (right) industries in the state. “44” denotes Wyoming’s status as the 44th state admitted to the Union, and lamps atop the two pillars are burning the Light of Knowledge.

The Wyoming National Guard Element Joint Force Headquarters is located at Cheyenne, Wyoming.
